When most of us choose what jewellery to wear that day, we simply go for earrings or necklaces that suit our outfits, are in fashion, or make ourselves look and feel good.
However, this might not be the case for newly appointed royal Meghan Markle, with the Duchess of Sussex being spotted in an array of jewellery that seem to have some sentimental meaning.
When the 37-year-old attended a WE Day event at the SSE Arena in Wembley, London, last week to support her husband Prince Harry as he gave a moving speech, it was her jewellery collection that stole the show.
She kept it casual in a navy blue blazer and her brunette locks down, but her rings, bracelets and necklace were anything but simple and were thought to be worth more than £3,350.
The Daily Mail noted she wore a gold ‘Mummy’ necklace valued at £650 she received at her lavish New York baby shower last month.
She also donned bangles that were handmade in Kabul by artisans trained by the Turquoise Mountain Foundation, a non-profit organisation Prince Charles set up in 2006.
The NGO was established together with former president of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai to create jobs for young people who “need hope and a sense of purpose in a beautiful country tragically caught up in violence and conflict”.
As the event was not a formal occasion, the former actress refrained from wearing a tiara as she had done on her wedding day in May 2018 – a gorgeous piece borrowed from Queen Elizabeth II.
